The 9th Annual
Shawn Adams Memorial
Spirit of the Game Ultimate Tournament
2002 - Nooga
Closing Statements and Loving Visuals
2002 was a big year for the Shawn Adams Memorial, as we welcomed the largest number of teams ever to the tournament: 18 open teams and 6 women's teams! The competition was high, and the Spirit even higher. For the first time ever, the tournament went without a hitch: no rain, no field displacement, no complaints, no loss of fun. Not that even with the most severe intrusion did we ever lose an ounce of fun, but this year seemed to provide more than ever!
Congratulations to the ladies from Atlanta, Link, for taking the women's division, defeating Flo in the finals. And W'SUP took Tanasi in the Open division. Dirty South won the B-Bracket (about time!) , and Ga Tech earned the Consolatious Victorious Award, narrowly averting UT See Ya Later's magnanimous force at the end.
Kudos to the Sailer's O St. Pete for showing the epitome of Spirit over the course of the weekend and taking home the coveted Spirit Award! This Award will return with the Sailers next year, giving them a free sail through the tournament.
The Mike Barker Brass Balls Awards went to Michelle O'Neil and Courtney Dale, "who gave the most heart for the game and their team, who played “balls-out” crazy Ultimate with complete disregard for their bodies, who spread the most love and showed the most Spirit throughout the weekend."
Lastly, but certainly not leastly, the Party Award: the most heated and entertaining competition of the weekend. It was a close race as 2:00 AM drew near, with the Sailers O St. Pete pulling from their dew rags every conceivable and even inconceivable effort, but the ladies of Fayetteville, AR were simply more determined as they whipped out the victory in the final moments of the event. If you weren't there, you really missed a spectacle!
Thanks to everyone that made this tournament the wonderful experience that it was! The folks of Nooga really put their hearts and souls into it, and the product of our combined effort made for a weekend of memorable moments and unparalleled fun. And, thanks to all of you who traveled to our fair town to participate: we do what we do for you, and you always make us feel good for doing it!
Hope to see you all next year!
