Chattanooga Flying Disc Club: League Rules

1. RULES OF THE GAME

A) All games will adhere to The UPA's Rules of Ultimate, 10th Edition.  (Link here for an overview of substantive rule changes from the 9th Edition to the 10th Edition) Before the start of each game, team captains are allowed to adjust these rules to accommodate their specific situation - if, and only if, both captains are in agreement.

B) All games are coed with a 5 man / 2 woman format. This format may be altered if agreed upon by both captains. A captain does not have to agree to play with less than 2 women. In such a case, the opposing team may not play more than 5 men.  Each team always has the option of playing more than 2 women, with the understanding that the opposing team does not have to match.

C) The Callahan Brick Rule will be enforced: If the disc lands in the endzone, it is played from that point. If the disc rolls out the back of the endzone, it may be walked straight up to the endzone line. If the disc lands out of bounds on the fly, it may be played from the center of the field, 15 yards from the endzone line.

D) The Callahan Goal Rule will be enforced: A goal is scored when a player catches any legal pass in the endzone of attack.

E) 3 time outs will be allowed per game
: 1 each half and one floating.  A time out shall last a maximum of 3 minutes.

F) Equipment time outs will be in accordance with the proposed UPA 10th Edition Rules: An equipment time out may be called to replace a broken disc or to correct a hazardous or illegal condition.  Any player may briefly extend a stoppage of play (e.g. during a foul or violation stoppage) in order to correct faulty equipment, such as tying shoelaces or fixing a warped disc.  Note that play has not stopped during a turnover even if the disc is out-of-bounds.  A team erroneously calling an equipment time out will be charged with a team time out, but play is to be restarted immediately.  If that team is in possession and has no time outs available, it is a turnover.  (Adapted from the UPA Rules of Ultimate: Proposed 10th Edition)

G) Games will begin at 6:15 PM: If it is 6:15 PM, and one team is ready to play but the other team is not, the ready team should get 7 players on the goal line and begin counting points at the rate of 1 point every 5 minutes. They must first warn the other team that they are doing so, by notifying any one player of the other team. The assessment of points is the team's decision and is fully supported by the CFDC League Coordinator and the CFDC Steering Committee.

I) Addition of players to a team before a game is allowed only with approval from the League Coordinator and the opposing captain.

J) Players not registered with the CFDC Ultimate League who wish to pick up with a team and play shall:
(Note: Players showing up after 6:15 PM WILL NOT have the opportunity to pick up)

1)    On the first occasion: Sign a waiver and await team assignment from the League Coordinator

2)    On the second occasion and every occasion thereafter: Pay a one-time fee of $5.00 and await team assignment from the League Coordinator

K) The game begins with a disc toss. The winner of the toss may choose to pull or receive, or choose which end of the field to take at the beginning of the game.

2. POSTPONEMENT OF GAMES

A game can only be postponed for the following reasons:

A) Dangerous playing conditions: lightning, hail, dangerously icy ground and/or travel conditions, etc.

B) Field conditions are deemed too poor and/or dangerous by the League Coordinator or representing member of the CFDC Steering Committee as according to the Camp Jordan Rain Policy

C) Teams agree to postpone the game due to exceptional circumstances

Postponed games can be rescheduled and played within the following week on either a Thursday evening or Sunday afternoon, if possible. Captains must inform League Coordinator of postponement, and get League Coordinator's approval for any scheduling changes. Team captains are to inform their teams about the rescheduled game and are responsible for fielding a team at the rescheduled time.  There will be a Tuesday evening scheduled toward the end of the season for Rain Days and postponed games.

3. SCORING OF GAMES

A) Games are played to 17 (unless the captains mutually agree otherwise before or during the game), and victories must be by a margin of at least 2 points. A hard cap of 17 will be imposed. However, no game should continue beyond the point where lighting becomes a safety issue.

4. SCORE KEEPING

After each game, every team captain or team representative must report the score of their game to the League Coordinator. It is ultimately the team captain's responsibility to ensure that League Coordinator receives the game scores. Scores should be submitted through an email to the webmaster each Wednesday following League play.  Team Standings will be updated weekly on the website.

5. END OF SEASON TOURNAMENT

A) Player eligibility: A player is eligible to play with a team in the End of Season Tournament if he or she is listed on that team's roster and has been playing with that team at least half of the season.  Players wishing to pick up with a team for the tournament may do so only with approval from the League Coordinator and the opposing captain, with the latter being on a game-to-game basis.

B) Tournament format will be designed by the League Coordinator and presented to the CFDC Steering Committee for approval.

6. FIELD RULES

7. LEAGUE POLICY

The League Coordinator has the power to suspend any player or team for flagrant violation or intentional disregard of League rules, field rules and/or policies set by the CFDC. Further action to be taken toward suspended players will be discussed and decided upon by the CFDC Steering Committee. Any player decided by the Committee to be a liability to League function will be dismissed from League play.
